I have yet to mess with any of the poxwalkers but they really look better without all the "filler detail" all over them with the horns and tentacle bullshit. Still very much on the fence about keeping a set of those death guard sprues, part of me wants to try my hand at a Nurgle Blood Bowl team with them and the other part says I have more than enough burgle models already lying around.Red Wet Skeletonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18315822743529781387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-5437660352982794342017-08-31T13:24:09.089-07:002017-08-31T13:24:09.089-07:00Thanks for reading it! Left one set of Poxwalkers pretty much stock, and then did some conversion (mostly similar stuff to here, trimming the spikes down or off, swapping out some of the more ridiculous weapons) on the rest, so I'd have a bit more variety available. It really does seem like a great low price-point starter set.WestRiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10221228665636182019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-15827096045184272042017-08-31T08:39:03.611-07:002017-08-31T08:39:03.611-07:00Great writeup! In the future we would like to do a little more, particularly with the standard bolters, modifying them to look more realistic (why isn't the charging bolt in-line with the barrel for example?). Even the poxwalkers are about the size of traditional Space Marines.

It is good to hear you have been working with a lot of the models too. The idea of keeping some of the spikes on the Plague Marines, but reducing their size, is a good one. I will consider doing the same as I assemble the last few.

I agree that GW has come an incredibly long way with their snap fit kits and other starter boxes. I too am excited to see what their forthcoming multipart versions will be like!Eric Wierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01276836738624222147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-13764987402918504572017-08-30T07:15:45.284-07:002017-08-30T07:15:45.284-07:00I meant that the Death Guard models, while made bi...I meant that the Death Guard models, while made bigger than normal Space Marines (to fit alongside the Primaris), kept a lot of the older Space Marine Proportions. The most notable thing being that they largely lack abdomens. Some of the models are better than others in this regard, but models like the Noxious Blightbringer are all legs and no real body.Eric Wierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01276836738624222147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-64651247968033623152017-08-30T07:08:44.449-07:002017-08-30T07:08:44.449-07:00Thanks! The missus got me the Dark ...Lovely write up Eric. The missus got me the Dark Imperium box for my birthday so the smaller sets had only marginal value for me, though I applaud GW for offering the range of options at competitive price points. I did snag the Nurgle side of the First Strike kit to buff the DI collection, rounding out the 7 man Plague Marine squad to a full 10 (including the necessary unit leaders to make two 5 man sub units if I wanted.

Across the range so far I really like how they are re imagining the various factions, although scale creep is concerning to me given the depth f my current (old_) collection - the new Plague Marines for example are Terminator sized compared to my Mk3 plastic/FW Death Guard upgrade Plague Marines - they are larger (height and bulk) even than the plastic Terminator/FW Death Guard Plague Terminator models I have.

I too removed the majority of spikes/horns and unnecessary tentacles on the Zombies and the Marines. For horns, I either removed them entirely or reduced them by about two thirds to tie them into the horns on my Plague Bearers. I've also started using spare Plague Bearer parts with the second (duplicated) unit of Zombies to further make a point of difference (although I am leaving more of the spikes (still toned back - but not fully removed) on this second squad t further change the silhouette).

Overall, I have been very happy with the quality of the Dark Imperium and First Strike kits and materials. For snap fits, they have come a long way from the older style, Battle of Macragge monopose efforts. Building on the excellent design philosophy taken with the Dark Vengeance Chosen. If only the multi part kits would come out sooner rather than later - I'm looking forward to seeing how they differ/add options, to the monopose effort in these kits.LWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04769460904008281915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-35519182638136192762017-08-29T23:27:43.418-07:002017-08-29T23:27:43.418-07:00Our tastes are quite closely aligned when it comes...Our tastes are quite closely aligned when it comes to subtly over ostentatiousness. Simple mods make for way more likeable models. When you say the Death Guard do not benefit from improved proportions - do you mean it adds nothing stylistically or they remain more traditional scaled 30mm?Sebastianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13361613733527207392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-69206408642826866172017-08-29T21:27:20.668-07:002017-08-29T21:27:20.668-07:00Good stuff.
