It´s a nightmare to put them together and the building time you mentioned is not exaggerated. I needed about 10 hours all in all for two tracks. It took longer than building and painting the whole tank.

It already would be helpful if MasterClub would give you metal pins - the plastic pins are terrible. Unfortunately I read your posting 3 years too late. ;) However, thanks for sharing!

Best from Germany,

ChrisHorrorwatyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00755607828811872456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-45015637759330299742018-06-03T07:52:51.258-07:002018-06-03T07:52:51.258-07:00Thanks for the offer! I wouldn't think this was worth it for a gaming model (and may not even be durable enough to stand up to repeated handling unless based) but you could use these sort of products to make a thrown track on a diorama... or spare tracks draped over the tank...(Kym) + Warburton + (Classic40K) https://www.blogger.com/profile/17333928965917754588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-45362560899996330622018-06-01T19:33:16.051-07:002018-06-01T19:33:16.051-07:00When i looked at building scale kits and the wealt...When i looked at building scale kits and the wealth of after market bits i was always kind of bemused by the track links for many of the reasons you flag here - tiny, fiddly, prone to breaking/ruining or losing the parts needed for a benefit that the true rivet counters might notice, but your average joe blow wouldn't. Like Eli mentioned, i think the ral benefit of the metal link is you can easily change the effect on the metal using various solutions which interact at a chemical level with the metal to get that 'realistic' look. Bt balancing that against the faff of drilling .4mm holes, not losing the pin, not shearing the pin, not deforming the hole etc...LWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04769460904008281915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-71861782316438854152018-06-01T16:33:54.536-07:002018-06-01T16:33:54.536-07:00If you like, send me some dimensions of the track ...If you like, send me some dimensions of the track segments, and I will knock a sample together for you next week. Having seen some of the acid washes you can do to metal tracks I think there is definitely room for them when trying to achieve maximum detailing but if they aren’t noticeably better detailed it seems individual plastic treads seem to be just as good from the looks of it.Red Wet Skeletonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18315822743529781387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-67856414000370797352018-06-01T06:39:55.251-07:002018-06-01T06:39:55.251-07:00Another option people have done is to make a 2 to ...Another option people have done is to make a 2 to 5ish-link jig for spacing and glue thin monofilament/fishing line along the length of the run.

For what it is worth, I think Fruil used to have jigs in some of their sets.Fiend Without A Facehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05257216652029946717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3901426566557963132.post-64722306767360253792018-05-31T22:33:53.001-07:002018-05-31T22:33:53.001-07:00Those pins sound like a nightmare. (are you going to base it once you are done?)

I think you could probably use a service like Shapeways to 3d print an articulated set of tracks, but it may end up being more money than the kit. (Shapeways only needs a .05mm clearance between elements, so a .4mm pin would take a .5mm socket)Lasgunpackerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13529298072677726064noreply@blogger.com
