The Pilgrym: A few more members of the Church

The Church of the Red Athenæum is almost complete!

With less than two months until the Pilgrym event, I am finally wrapping up the last few models for the Church.  Other than the Cardinal who leads the congregation, these are the last two members that will be a part of the models that go to England.  The first is to represent the librarian/historian for the Church; one who has devoted much of their studies to uncovering the details about the Great Crusade and final days of the Heresy. I decided to base him on one of the other Missionary models Brian Nelson sculpted for the Sister of Battle line years ago. He is already lacking an arm and one of his eyes, so he is right up the Church’s alley.  The model looks right at home with the conversion for Samael too.

The old Missionary models are fantastic, and I was thrilled to be able to include one in the Church!

His bolt pistol is converted from one of the original plastic Rogue Trader space marine pistols (they were quite small then!).

To go along with the historian’s devotion to studying the Heresy, I thought it would be neat if he carried some cherished relic from that era. After a little thought I realized a weapon from the Heresy would be ideal. The thought of him carrying around some ancient bolt weapon which has long since run out of ammunition seemed fitting. He is now carrying an old bolt pistol (one of the plastic Rogue Trader bolt pistols); which I imagine is some form of caseless variant (as it has no ejection port for spent casings).

The first obvious mutant of the Church, and hopefully one of many more to come!

GorkaMorka had a lot of excellent models that are just begging to be converted!

I also started to create a new regular member of the congregation, this one based around an old GorkaMorka mutie model.  The Church has a large population of mutant members, and I realized that I needed to do a better job reflecting this.  The Keeper model, around which the conversion is based, is pretty creepy, missing fingers, ears, and even having an eye on his palm.  Perfect.

Let me know what you think of the models!

    1. GorkaMorka as a whole had a diverse and excellent range. Who could forget the Rebel Grots?!

  2. Well you guys know I love working with old metal miniatures and dragging them into a more contemporary look :)

The real issue I have now with the Church is that I can't point out a favorite as its so many strong characters that stand on their own here!

    1. Thanks for the kind words! It is always satisfying to get new use out of an old metal miniature.

After finishing my group for the Pilgrym Project I hope to slowly continue to convert more members. Maybe even one day having a small army to use in 40k. :)
