Dark Eldar: Kabalite Trueborn - Part 2

The Blasterborn assemble!
The past couple weeks have been a busy time for modeling on my end. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to keep focused on a single project and, as such, I still don’t have anything completed. One that has been occupying a lot of my time has been continuing to build my first squad of Kabalite Trueborn. I have made pretty good progress since my last post about them and now have three that are near completion. As I work on the fourth, I thought I would show some pictures of the new squad members to see what everyone thinks.

Trueborn #2 - With a little cutting and greenstuff work I achieved a pose with the blaster at ease.
Since the Trueborn are able to take a total of 4 special weapons, I am aiming at making the first four all armed with blasters. Of all the Dark Eldar plastic kits (to my knowledge), there are only two different blasters available, one with the Dark Eldar Warriors and another with the Scourges. The two differ really only in the arms holding the rifle, with the Scourge arms lacking armour plating. At first I was not sure if I wanted to use the blaster from the Scourges due to the lack of armour plating, however after playing around with them for a little while I decided they fit surprisingly well. After all, since the Trueborn represent some of the elite warriors of the Dark Eldar, it is only fitting that they have armour configurations customized to the individuals’ specifications.

Trueborn #3 - I like how the armourless arms fit with the rest of the model.
I am still unsure of what to put on their backs (in place of where the Shadow Warriors/Maiden Guard would have their quivers) and am now leaning more towards nothing at all. I acquired some High Elf Dragon Prince sheathed swords that could work; I particularly like the simple straight blades of the swords. However, I would  need to do some trimming to remove some of the High Elf likeness, potentially adding some cracks to the gemstones (to resemble damaged soulstones...). Additionally, I feel I would also need to do something to make them a little smaller; at the moment they are comically large. Another option, if I stick with the idea of using swords, is to use the sheathed sword of Brian Nelson’s Chaos Warrior Sorcerer lord (like the Dragon Prince swords it too is massive...).

Possible sword options - Both are unfortunately large however...
Well, that is it where the Trueborn stand at the moment. Feel free to leave any comments, criticism, or suggestions! I will be sure to write another post to show the fourth Trueborn when he is finished.

  1. Could you please clarify which models you got the cloaks from? Thanks

    1. Sorry I did not mention it more clearly in this post, but the cloaks actually came from the new High Elf Shadow Warriors. I have another earlier post that goes more into detail on how I did the conversion. That post can be found here if interested:

      Thanks for the interest!

  2. Awesome work, man - I love how those are coming along! Great use of bits, personally I'd go without the swords m'self. The cloaks are really cool as-is!

    1. Thanks! Currently I leaning heavily towards not using the swords. Their cloaks are really nice looking. I will have to think of something to fill the little hole on their backs; maybe just a little metal plate fashioned with greenstuff.

  3. This is essentially what I intend on doing with an Eldar Corsair raiding force, just I intend a mix of Dark Eldar Warriors and Eldar Guardian bodies. It's awesome to see how well it works!
