Iron Sleet Invitational: Inquisitor Lucanus Molnár and Naval officer Nils Fernow

Communication Breakdown.

With it being a little over a week into March, the deadline for the Iron Sleet Invitational is fast approaching. I have never put so much time into converting a group of three models, but I think it has been paying off. I am happy to announce that the last two models, Inquisitor Lucanus Molnár of the Ordo Machinum and Naval officer Nils Fernow, are finally finished!  Rather than swamping you with too much text (which I am often prone to doing), I thought I would just show you some pictures of the models!  As always comments and suggestions are welcome.  I would be particularly interested in hearing peoples’ thoughts on color schemes, as I am gearing up to start painting them.

While it was a long time coming, I am extremely pleased how Molnar turned out.  I completely reposed the legs, and I think it went a long way.

Although I was worried that his outstretched hand would be too small, after some green stuff work, I think it works well.  The hand being less bulky than a standard space marine one and his non-marine head really emphasize the sheer size of his armor.

When I first started working on his head, carving away the helmet, I never would have guessed it would have been so much work.  Placing the ears was quite a chore.

I really like the Karl Franz head; with a little cutting, shaping his cheeks and adding scars, he really has a Man With No Name look.

  1. Brilliant. Reposing those legs grants the mini a real transformation. He no longer looks quite so top heavy nor like he's annoy to top over and fall on his face. And that backpack is still a brilliant piece of kit. Well done.

Fernow is rocking that understated cool vibe. His lower legs sell me. Brilliant choice. And again your work on the pistol blows my mind.

Molnar needs lots of gold. Fernow should remain dark and muted like his boss.

    1. Thanks for the kind words! I am really pleased with the repositioning of the Molnár's legs. They went a long way in improving the models as a whole.

Thanks for the painting suggestions. I am still in the process of deciding his color scheme. :)

  2. Brilliant work on all three, but Molnar is blowing me away - he's straddling the line between the 40k universe and classic sci-fi, and it works. He's really giving off a Jules Verne adventurer kind of vibe to me, so I can see him in a dark brass, steel, and leather color scheme, and weather the armor down as if that power armor has actually seen some action.

    1. I am glad you like all of the models for the Invitational! They have really come a long way since when I started and each one has turned out looking better than I was envisioning. :)

Neat ideas for a color scheme for the Inquisitor. I have so many different potential ideas now... It will be difficult to choose!

    1. Thanks for the support! Coming into the 2nd Inquisitor (Molnar) I was certain he was going to be the weakest link of the entire scene (mainly because all I really knew was he was going to have power armor...). As I started converting him, however things rapidly feel into place and all sorts of ideas came to me. He may be my favorite of the group too...

  8. These are amazing. You have done a really good job! The poses are excellent and all the attention to detail makes them stand out as some of the most elaborate minis I have seen for a long time.

The =I=-insignia on Molnár does wonders!

If Soljic and Fernow are painted in earthly tones I would suggest to do something really bling on Molnár: You have mentioned 'brazen' some time ago in relation to building Molnár. A shiny bronze would be quite interesting! Combined with some whites, golds, and maybe green =I=-signs?

    1. Thank you! I am really happy out the poses turned out in the end. There were a few times I was unsure if I was going to be able to pull everything off as I had envisioned.

Based on what I am planning for Molnár, he should be much more brazen and flashy than the other two models. :)

  9. I've been trying to figure out what torso you used, and for the life of me I'm not placing it - where is it from?

    1. Sorry, I'm talking about Molnar's torso.

    2. Molnar's torso comes from the power armored Legion Praetor from Forge World. The detailing on his breast plate was shaved off and his legs were removed.

    3. Ah, now I see it - the lack of bevor was throwing me off.
